Your Association, Occupation and Inspiration...

Psalm 1 is one of the most beautiful passages in the Scripture. It paints a beautiful picture of what the life of the righteous is, from beginning to the end – just within those six verses. The Righteous is that man or woman who has settled three things.

First, is Association: Who will be my friend? This man does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers (vs.1). A lot of people cannot get anywhere in life until they change their association. Tell me your friend, I will tell you who you are. The people you move with will determine your character, your vision and ambition, and possibly your destiny. A friend that will not help you to the place of divine purpose and fulfilment is not worth your attention.

The second is Occupation: What will always fill my heart? What will always excite me? This man delights in the Law of the Lord (vs.1). There are many things to preoccupy yourself and get your minds filled with – different kinds of books, movies, internet sites, money, fame, pleasure, and a lot more. But the best you need if you will prosper in God’s way is his Word – written, spoken, read, illustrated - in any form.

The third is Inspiration: What will always inspire me? This man meditates on God’s Word day and night. Meditation leads to inspiration; this leads to perspiration and ultimately aspiration. So get inspired, but by the Word of God as you think on it day and night.

Unconsciously as you settle these questions of Association, Occupation and Inspiration, you are automatically planted by the streams of water (vs.3). I once lived next to a stream. There are few trees within the vicinity. I studied a particular one very close to me throughout one dry season. Even when the volume of water in the stream drastically reduced due to the absence of rain, the tree remained green as its leaf remained intact. Its roots are already established downwards, tapping constant supply of nutrient. Birds find a place to nest on it and I see people come to sit under it to relax whenever the hot northern sun is at its peak. This is the life of the righteous. He flourishes; he prospers in whatever he does (vs.3). His pure and visionary association connects him with human and earthly resources. His occupation and inspiration connect him with divine, spiritual and supernatural resources. Altogether, he becomes blessed and in turn, becomes a blessing.

Do something about your association, occupation and inspiration today. You will automatically find yourself planted to prosper.
