Presented by Rachel Lucky - MD/CEO, THE TALENTED
on the occasion of POSH online class (July Edition)
A leader is anyone with the authority to direct. And to every man is an authority to direct. Everyone is a leader in his or her domain.. How you rule your world matters.
You don't need to be the President or Governor to be a leader neither do you need a tag like C.E.O to be a leader. So long as you are a man occupying a space on earth, you are a leader.
I always tell people that to every man is the power to dominate but the question is, do you recognize your strength?
It is therefore, necessary to stand out as a leader because anyone can be a leader but not anyone can be an effective leader.
So you can be a leader but not an effective leader.
NOTE: Not just the capacity to lead but the capacity to lead EFFICIENTLY. Hence an effective leader is one who can lead efficiently.

Who is a Leader?
"A leader is YOU. And not just you, but the you who is meant to dominate."A leader is anyone with the authority to direct. And to every man is an authority to direct. Everyone is a leader in his or her domain.. How you rule your world matters.

It is therefore, necessary to stand out as a leader because anyone can be a leader but not anyone can be an effective leader.
So you can be a leader but not an effective leader.
What is Effective Leadership?
Effective leadership is the capacity to lead efficiently.NOTE: Not just the capacity to lead but the capacity to lead EFFICIENTLY. Hence an effective leader is one who can lead efficiently.
Five Things that Make an Effective Leader
1. Time keeping/management.
An effective leader is one who is good at time keeping/management. You're probably thinking how does this relate or what does this mean? Any man who do not respect time... (Note my use of word respect) can never be an effective leader.
You
have to understand that time is precious and what you make of it
determines the future and effective leaders are people who rule their
world by making effective use of time.
Time keeping starts with realizing that an 8pm is 8pm and today is today not tomorrow. One thing we should understand too is that effective time keeping/management helps deal with procrastination. An effective leader understand this and ensures that every time spent, is well spent.
2. Project Management.
Effective leadership comes with the ability to be a good project manager.
Project management here does not have to be one big name awarding a big title along side... You see those little tasks you neglect, That's it. If you can't handle little, you can't handle much.
How do you react when you're to put together a team who needs to represent an organization? Or even to make sure that everywhere is well kept for a little event? Freak out and say it's not your thing? Or just do your best to ensure that everything is in order? How do you also go about to carry out these tasks? Now that's project management. An effective leader should be creative, calculative and organizing.
3. Social awareness.
Your ability to interact and connect with your environment matters too. Effective leadership does not come with a timid attitude covered up in the name of being an introvert. Am I saying introverts can't be effective leaders? NO! Connect
with the environment around you.... Learn where you need to and grab
every opportunity you can to acquire a new skill.... And this comes
with social awareness.
4. Personal discipline.
If you can't discipline yourself then you're not worth being a leader. You should be able to tell yourself what's good and bad. You should be able to also intentionally push yourself even beyond limit. When your weakness says you can't... You should be able to obey your strength and say you can... If you must be an effective leader, then you definitely must always consider personal discipline.
5. Relationship/reactions.
How do you relate with people? How do you react when the ones you think you're better than disagrees with you or try to prove you wrong? You're
sitting have a good time over a cup of coffee and someone suddenly
spills the coffee over you intentionally, yet pretending it to be a
mistake. How would you react to that? How do you react when someone tries to soil what you've been working for? How do you try to bring in people who think they're nobody and can't do it... And make them fit in?
If you must be an effective leader, you need to learn how to relate with different people on a daily basis, control your emotions, manage situations and watch your reactions.
