An effective leader is not just one who is productive but he/she also influences the lives of people positively.

As a leader you must be careful of how you live  as people emulate our lifestyle. The following tips should guide you appropriately:

  • Have a purpose or goal in mind. Purpose gives us a sense of direction in life.
  • You must have a foresight. Be taller in vision that way you get to see beyond what everyone else see.
  • Grow in knowledge. Read books. Use the technology, social media and facilities around. It helps you to become aware of what's happening in your environment. It gives you an opportunity to learn new things or old things in a new way. It also broadens your scope of ideas and imagination. It gives you the ability to generate ideas from seemingly insignificant things.
  • Be a negotiator. Learn the act of persuasion. Be skillful with words. Watch your words because when you speak even people you least expect listen.
  • Be a guide to others. Don't see people seeking counsel as a disturbance. Be willing to help people. Be an inspiration to others. Encourage them. Be more of a friend than a boss with the boundaries still intact.
  • Be positive and persistent about getting results. Never give up!
  • Leaders are not paralyzed by mistakes. Let go of the mistakes of the past and forge ahead.
  • Learn when to be silent. There is a power in silence. You must not comment on every issue. Be silent sometimes.
  • Learn to say "NO". Say "NO" to some things and stick to it. You must not always please people. Learn to say "NO" when pressure, responsibilities, expenses and work becomes unbearable.
  • The greatest test of leadership is managing finances. Let your integrity be without blemish when money is placed in your hands.
  • Don't always expect things from people. Work double effort to get the things you want.
  • Expand your contact. Know a lot of people. They will be handy someday. Don't underrate anybody. Never feel anyone is trash or too small. Your network is your net-worth.
  • Utilize synergy and delegation. Let people assist you. Have multiple strategies. Plan A may be good but Plan B will be helpful.
  • Don't make yourself indispensable. The worse thing that can happen to a man is dying without having someone to carry on his legacy. Duplicate yourself in others. Teach them what you know. This way everything moves smoothly even in your absence.
